Setting up an E-mail Account (Skill Level: Beginner)

Outlook and Outlook Express both use a type of email called POP3. POP3 is simply computer code for a way to send email back and forth between computers. This article goes step-by-step and shows how to setup a POP3 account at www.ComputerShack.net

  • This will only work if you have an email account setup on www.ComputerShack.net first.*

Open Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express Click Tools>Account Click Add, and add a new email account Enter your name Enter your email address (you@computershack.net)

SERVER INFO: Your server is using POP3 for incoming mail Username: you@computershack.net (write the WHOLE email address) Password: Whatever password was given to you Your INCOMING mail server is "mail.computershack.net" Your OUTGOING mail server is "smtp-relay.computershack.net"

Make sure "Use secure password authentication" is NOT checked.

Click finish, then from the main screen on Outlook, click Send/Receive Last step: enjoy your new email address!
